I have a love/hate relationship with funerals. On one hand, I hate coming to the realization that the deceased is gone forever and I will no longer have the privilege of enjoying their company in this life.  On the other hand, I love how funerals provoke self-examination/reflection and the true meaning of life.  It’s amazing to me how the totality of an individual who lived a number of years is summed up in 1-3 paragraphs, a photo or collage and a 1-2 hour funeral service. For me, the worse part of the service is when the casket is lowered into the ground, mind you ONLY the casket and their remains. Not a  house, car, 401K,  job title, degree/certification, business, boat, vacation or whatever they worked most of their life to accumulate.   As I read the obituary, I ponder and wonder…..Did they live the life they wanted to live or some of it? Did they do any of what they loved to do? Or did they conform to what others thought they should do? Did they do what God created them to do? Did their dreams, passion and purpose die with them?  HMMM…..….
